Todi, Umbria
“No other placesduringmy travel have leftme an astonishingfeeling as Todi town. Far form the hectic places, it seems to be drift off in the dreams of its past and in an unusual peacefulness…”. Ferdinand Gregorovius (Prussian Historician)
At the very beginning Todi was an ancient Etruscan colony, then Romans took it over.
Nowadays it still maintains a middle age atmosphere with its austere palaces and small churches.
The prettiness of its green countryside and the prosperity of its historic, artistic and architectural heritage make one of the most appreciated and well known town of the entire region.
An ancient town which still maintain its fascinating traditions which are able to capture the visitors interest…and the heart.
It cannot be missed the visit to the Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione, one of the most imposing temple dating back to the Renaissance period. The project was realised by Bramante.
It is also recommendable to pay a visit to San Fortunato Temple’s crypts where the mortal remains of Jacopone da Todi are kept.
The Teatro Comunale, typical expression of the nineteenth century and Piazza del Popolo, which represents the town centre since the roman times.
